Nubra Glacier

This Nubra Glacier is situated on the Karakoram Range – south slopes in Ladakh Region. Nubra Glacier one of the largest glaciers and it is situated in a huge amphitheatre and has been ringed through towering peak to Nubra River flowing in Shyok River.

The glacier of large tributaries opens in the main glacier and includes the valley glaciers from northern west Sasser massif La slopes and also Karakoram Range slopes. These are mainly the small glaciers present in the hanging valleys and which feed Nubra glacier. The vast snowfield and various moraines will be found along various flanks present on the tributary junction glaciers as well as main glacier. Moreover, there is no vegetation on this tract lying above snow line. Besides Tibetan Plateau, Nubra is a cold desert and it is having the rarest precipitation as well as scant vegetation too. The villages below are fertile and irrigated and it produces barley, wheat, mustard and peas and also different varieties of nuts and fruits too. This includes walnuts, apples, apricots and other almond trees.
